Rockingham Motor Speedway in Northamptonshire again played host to The Renault UK Clio Cup for Rounds 13 and 14.
The qualifying session was closely contested with only three drivers breaking under the 1m30s mark. The 4Front Motor Group with WDE Motorsport driver Paul Rivett achieved his best lap time of 1.29.876 his second best lap time was 1.29.958 both times were on lap 10. These results placed Paul 2nd on the grid for Race 1 and 3rd on the grid for Race 2 after securing the same lap time as Josh Price however Josh had to serve a two place grid penalty from an incident on a previous round at Snetterton therefore moving Paul up to second on the grid.
The rain fell continually throughout Race 1 by the closing laps the weather took a turn for the worse bringing in more thunder, lightning and gale force winds. Paul made a great start managing to pass Mike Bushell take the lead at Deene, unfortunately there was then a period behind the safety car, on the restart Ant Whorton-Eales took the lead Paul later said: “When Ant was on my outside there my car was actually starting to slide up the banking towards him so I had to back out or I’d have taken us both out. Fair play to him, though, he clearly had the pace in that one.” Paul was satisfied with the 2nd place finish in Race 1 as it was a wet race and the WDE Motorsport team had been unable to do any testing in the wet this year.
For the 2nd race Paul made a good start off the line, he had contact with Ant Whorton-Eales in the opening sector but managed to retain 2nd position. The safety car was called for before the end of lap 1 following an incident at Chapman Curve. Paul drove a solid race keeping Mike Bushell under pressure for the entire race to secure a solid 2nd place finish. Paul felt the car had a great race pace all weekend.
Rounds 15 & 16 take place at Silverstone on 17th/18th September 2016.
