It was a frustrating end to Paul Rivett’s Fun Cup season as the RAW Motorsports driver was unable to convert his strong pace into a good result at Oulton Park.

Rivett was again sharing the modified Volkswagen Beetle machine with Alex and John MacLeod but unfortunately an early accident for Alex left the trio out of contention as lengthy repairs were needed. In the end, they were classified in 20th place after the four-hour contest but, despite the damaged machine, Rivett was able to put in some quick laptimes in the closing stages.

“Alex had a bit of an accident in his first stint, which put us out of the running,” said Rivett, who said he felt for Alex after the crash. “It took the guys about an hour and a half to fix but RAW Motorsports did a great job to get the car back out. It was one of those things. I think, with our pace, we would’ve been on for our best result.”

Despite the disappointing end to the season, four-time Renault UK Clio Cup champion Rivett had thoroughly enjoyed his first season of Fun Cup competition.

“It’s been amazing – I didn’t really know too much about the championship before getting involved in it and I was pleasantly surprised by how competitive it is, how good the racing is and how good the car is,” he said.

Rivett’s attention now turns to the last event of the British Truck Racing Championship season, at his home circuit of Brands Hatch. He is targeting second in the championship with a strong finish to the year at the popular race meeting on November 2-3.
